(VIENNA, VA) - The SS United States Conservancy has been selected as a beneficiary of a $1,000 grant from Navy Federal Credit Union's "Dollars for Doers" program thanks to the passionate support of Stanton Daywalt, a friend of the Conservancy and longtime supporter of the SS United States. This is the fifth “Dollars for Doers” grant Daywalt has secured through Navy Federal, as he continues to support the Conservancy and its work to save America’s Flagship in the face of twin threats to her survival.

The "Dollars for Doers" grant program recognizes, supports, and encourages the contributions of Navy Federal employees' volunteer efforts, awarding a $1,000 grant to 100 qualified employee team members, donated to the nonprofit organization of their choice.

Now, in her most challenging hour, it is the passion and determination of supporters like Stanton that fuels the Conservancy’s work to ensure the SS United States is not lost to history. We are grateful for Stanton’s continued advocacy on our behalf and extend our deepest gratitude to Navy Federal Credit Union for their contribution to our cause,” said Susan Gibbs, the granddaughter of the ship’s famed designer, William Francis Gibbs, and president of the SS United States Conservancy.”

Out of hundreds of applications submitted, Stanton Daywalt was selected as a grant recipient, and he has once again chosen to award his grant to the SS United States Conservancy. A longtime admirer of America's Flagship, Stanton first visited the vessel in Newport News, VA, as a young boy in 1989. Since then, he has co-authored the book “SS United States: An Operational Guide to America’s Flagship,” is co-chair of the Hampton Roads Chapter, and refurbishes ship items for donation to the Conservancy, along with many other work toward securing the future of America’s Flagship.
