The SS United States is going to set sail for the final time in the coming days.
After nearly 30 years in Philadelphia, the historic 53,000-ton ship is back on track to being sunk and becoming the world’s largest artificial reef.
Florida’s Okaloosa County’s Tourist Development Department, which purchased the ship in the fall of 2024, announced on Wednesday, Feb. 5, that all local, state and federal requirements needed to move the ship had been met, and that the process could resume to move it down south.
