Advertising the United States:
Discovering America’s flagship through prints, posters, and advertisements
“The Unrushables or, what ever happened to Serenity?” Commissioned by United States Lines, March 25, 1967, The New Yorker.
SS United States Conservancy Curatorial Collection
In the modern and hurried world of the 1960s, The Unrushables offered a new narrative: “Serenity.” With her matching red jumpsuit, book in hand, and stylish sunglasses, the blonde woman of this ad is the picture of serenity. To find serenity, one had to look no further than the SS United States, where the restorative journey would have passengers arrive in Europe refreshed and rested.
